The struggle is so real. You wake up, and somehow you’re expected to draw two identical lines on your face before anyone else sees you, all before your coffee has even kicked in. But winged liner really can become part of your everyday routine rather than something reserved for special occasions, once you break it down into a few simple steps.
Start with a thin base line traced along your upper lash line, keeping it as close to your natural lashes as possible. This gives you a solid foundation to work from before you attempt anything more dramatic. Next, to create your wing, look straight ahead into the mirror and imagine a line extending outward from your lower lash line. That imaginary line is roughly the angle your wing should follow for a flattering, lifted shape.
Draw a small line along that angle first, then connect it back to the outer corner of your base line, filling in the little triangle shape that forms between the two. Building your wing with small, light strokes rather than one confident, permanent swipe makes it so much easier to adjust and perfect before you commit to the final shape.
Once you’re happy with one eye, use it as your reference point for the second one. Matching symmetry between both eyes genuinely gets easier the more you practice, so try not to be too hard on yourself if they’re not perfectly identical at first. And keep a cotton swab dipped in a little makeup remover nearby, because it is honestly your best friend for cleaning up any small mistakes along the way without having to start your whole eye completely over.
